Las cápsulas endoscópicas permiten analizar el interior del organismo con la mera acción de tragarse una “pastilla” en la que va introducida una cámara. Ahora, científicos de la Universidad de Washington revolucionan el mundo de la endoscopia con una minicámara situada en una píldora de sólo 6x18mm que puede ofrecer una panorámica inédita del interior del cuerpo humano. La nueva cápsula no precisa anestesia o sedación, como las endoscopias tradicionales. En el futuro, los investigadores esperan llegar incluso a suministrar medicamentos a través de ella.
La PillCam es una microcámara en forma de cápsula, que se puede y debe ingerir para obtener los diagnósticos médicos, una vez transcurridas 48 de horas desde su toma, la píldora empezará a desintegrarse.
